Our Take

South + Pine does something deceptively hard: it puts genuinely serious cooking in a room that feels like a neighborhood restaurant. Chef Leia Gaccione appeared five times on Iron Chef — as a challenger — and spent years in professional kitchens before opening on South Street. None of that gets announced when you walk in.

The polenta fries are already the stuff of local legend: crispy edges, soft center, the kind of thing you order first and then order again before the entrées arrive. The menu runs American with a practiced hand — seasonal, restrained, and technically precise in a way you notice without it being pointed at you.

BYOB with a rustic patio and a room small enough to feel like you’re somewhere. Reservations are wise on weekends; the dining room fills.
